Attention Firearm Training Facilities and Instructors
The Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) would like to remind BSIS firearms permit holders that in order to satisfy the renewal requirements for the BSIS firearm permit, the permit holder is required to complete a two-hour training course on the use and avoidance of deadly force each time the permit holder completes a range qualification.
Specifically, as a condition for renewal of a BSIS firearm permit, the permit holder must complete four range qualifications (two qualifications in each year, no sooner than four months apart) during the two-year period the firearm permit is valid. Prior to each of the four qualifications, the permit holder must complete a two-hour training course on the use of deadly force and avoidance of deadly force. As a result, the firearm permit holder should have also completed a total of four of the two-hour training courses at the time of renewal. The two-hour course may be administered by a private patrol operator licensee, the person designated by the private patrol operator licensee to administer the Powers of Arrest training, or a BSIS-certified firearms training facility (California Code of Regulations section 633).
Please contact BSIS at 1-800-952-5210 if you have any questions regarding this issue.
